Editorial of the Chairman
Dear Members of the DECT Forum,

erich kamperschroerFor the last almost 100 years home telephony has not substantially changed. The introduction of cordless phones based on the DECT technology was the latest significant innovation of the telephony industry, which was highly accepted by the consumers due to the reliability and well pricing of the products. These benefits for the end consumer created a mass market of DECT telephone devices of more than 670 million devices sold and growing to more than 100 million devices per year worldwide.

With the introduction of the broadband era and the emerging new networks (IMS) connected to millions of homes, the telephony application field is currently in the stage to originate new applications and form factors for communication equipment. The global DECT industry meets the challenges for completely new home communication applications with the introduction of the CAT-iq technology for the new era of IP-based and broadband home connectivity. CAT-iq telephony devices will not only set a milestone in voice and sound quality of telephony, but will also enable new intelligent applications and services. After the CAT-iq technology launch only 9 months ago, the industry has reached to start the certification program of products based on the innovative CAT-iq standard. Thanks to all Members who have contributed to this exciting and visionary evolution – even though they are acting in a very competitive environment.

Kind regards,
Erich Kamperschroer
Start of the CAT-iq Certification Program
DECT 6.0The DECT Forum has announced the opening of the CAT-iq Certification Program for the first – wideband voice (basic interoperability) – profile. The DECT Forum has successfully concluded the first phase of its interoperability program, with the identification of two “golden platforms”, enabling the commencement of the formal CAT-iq Certification Program. Future interoperability testing events will now be strengthened by the existence of such golden devices against which others can interoperate. The DECT Forum has published the “Regulation Handbook for CAT-iq Certification” (parts 1 – 7) on its website (http://www.dect.org) which includes all relevant documentation for companies who would like to participate in the certification program. The CAT-iq Certification Program is accessible for Full Members of the DECT Forum. At least one company in the value chain (either the manufacturer or the supplier) of the CAT-iq compliant product must be a Full Member. For more information please contact the DF Secretariat: secretariat@dect.org

Wireless Symposium in London

Why do we need so many wireless technologies? Which technology is best for which application? These and many other questions were raised at the Wireless Symposium in London in summer. The event assembled representatives of Bluetooth SIG, the WiFi and WiMedia Alliances and the DECT Forum.
