ULE Alliance boosts its IoT presence
The ULE Alliance announced that it has become a sponsored member of the AllSeen Alliance. The ULE Alliance includes among its members the DECT Forum, Dialog Semiconductor, DSP Group, Gigaset, Lantiq, and VTech Communications, and said that the move continues its successful journey as an open, co-operation-minded organisation for the benefit of consumer-targeted IoT solutions worldwide. This new co-operation means the ULE Alliance and AllSeen Alliance are adding a stepping stone to broaden the adoption of IoT, according to the ULE Alliance.
The Allseen Alliance backs the Qualcomm-created AllJoyn technology for IoT device connectivity and discovery. According to Caroline Gabriel, analyst and co-founder at Rethink: “The ULE Alliance was one of five new members announced recently [in September 2015] by the AllSeen body, which is sweeping all before it in the race to dominate the IoT connectivity framework in consumer markets, scoring several wins against its nearest rival, Intel- backed IoTivity.”
Gabriel said: “The ULE Alliance’s business development director Avi Barel explained that discussions between the two groups have been ongoing for quite some time, and that the move put ULE at centre stage alongside AllSeen, and served as recognition of the protocol. He noted that with Qualcomm and Microsoft, ULE suddenly found itself working with giants – very different from the consumer electronics firms it has traditionally worked with.”
“We are excited about this co-operation and believe that we can contribute to making people's lives safer and more convenient. The ULE Alliance will contribute the ULE application layer protocol specifications and the open source to the AllSeen Alliance, and lead a project to run AllJoyn over the ULE protocol”, said Barel.
“This partnership expands the global IOT
ecosystem, bringing consumers more choice and opportunity and expanding the capabilities of ULE devices and infrastructure that is already widely deployed. AllJoyn on ULE creates an expanded world of possibilities”, said Philip DesAutels, senior director IoT, The Linux Foundation.
The two organisations presented a joint demonstration at IFA 2015 in Berlin in September 2015. The DSP Group, a ULE Alliance promoter member, contributed to the preparation of the demo.
DECT Forum and members exhibit at Broadband World Forum 2015
The DECT Forum will once again be at the ExCel exhibition centre in London, UK, between October 20-22, exhibiting at the Broadband World Forum 2015 (booth C60). Alongside member companies including Binatone, Dialog Semiconductor, DSP Group and Lantiq, the DECT Forum and ULE Alliance will present technology insights and a comprehensive industry update of the latest developments in CAT-iq, HD Voice and ULE (Ultra Low Energy). There will also be opportunities to meet key representatives of leading chipset providers and product manufacturers and to get latest first-hand information about core DECT based technologies for broadband audio, video and IoT applications.
Please visit the DECT Forum booth C60 at the BBWF to view the following presentations:
SPOTLIGHT 1: DECT, CAT-iq and HD Voice
A significant number of devices have successfully passed CAT-iq 2.0 certification and are now part of the product portfolios of several major carriers. HD Voice is a key feature of CAT-iq and is gaining traction not only from DSL providers but also from cable carriers, with deployment in the market worldwide (www.dect.org/cat-iq-certification.aspx).
The DECT Forum will present devices from various manufacturers that received awards in 2015
SPOTLIGHT 2: ULE for IoT solutions
ULE is the leading control network eco-system for home and building use by leveraging the proven reliability and range of the DECT radio technology currently in use in 100’s of millions of products worldwide. ULE Alliance allows its members to quickly develop new IoT solutions (www.ulealliance.org). On display will be the first certified ULE devices plus an interoperability demo between devices from different vendors.
ULE Alliance and member companies exhibit Smart Home wireless solutions at IFA 2015
The ULE Alliance, which is promoting the worldwide adoption of the innovative ULE (Ultra Low Energy) wireless technology for IoT, attended IFA 2015 in Berlin during September, together with member companies including Binatone, Crow, Dialog Semiconductor, DSP Group, Gigaset, Lantiq, Panasonic and VTech Communications. At the ULE Alliance booth these companies showed a broad range of certified ULE devices for Smart Home applications, based on a range of semiconductor platforms. A selection of ULE-enabled devices was shown at the booth, demonstrating seamless interoperability.
The ULE Alliance explained that its mission is to assist OEMs to develop Smart Home solutions that build on ULE’s technological superiority in communication range, interference free operation, voice and video capability. This delivers simple network architecture and devices which are easy to install and use. The Alliance added that it is maintaining the tradition of a high degree of interoperability already established by the reliable and worldwide-adopted DECT technology.
