Cordless Telephony
Overview
Following the introduction of the DECT (Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunications) standard in the early 1990s, the cordless phone market expanded rapidly, becoming global and mature. The primary purpose of creating the DECT standard was to provide high-quality, reliable, affordable and secure wireless communication systems for Residential and Enterprise environments.
DECT has developed over time and is today the global technology of choice for cordless telephony systems.

Enterprise DECT telephony systems
Systems for Enterprise usage consist of multiple base stations and handsets with most vendors supporting more than 1000 base stations and 10000 handsets. These systems are deployed to cover anything between small to very large customer sites where seamless handover between base stations guarantees robust and high-quality audio performance.
Enterprise DECT systems can be integrated in PBXs (Private Branch Exchange) or connected via IP-interfaces to customers’ PBXs or Unified Communications systems.
Enterprise systems often include messaging and personal security capabilities integrating with applications and solutions found in vertical market segments such as hospitals, care homes, industry and retail.
DECT technology enjoys great popularity amongst Enterprise customers because it features superb sound quality, robustness, ease of deployment and low cost of ownership.

Residential DECT solutions
DECT systems offer reliable wireless telephony for homes, enabling multiple handsets to connect to a single landline for added convenience. Operating on the dedicated 1.9 GHz radio band, they minimise interference and ensure clear communication. With support for multiple handsets, devices can link to a single base station, simplifying communication throughout the house.
These systems provide an indoor range of 50-100 meters and up to 300 meters outdoors, with the option to add more handsets without additional lines. Many systems come with built-in answering machines, intercom functions, call blocking and caller ID. They also feature long battery life, HD voice for clearer calls, eco-modes to save energy, and “Do Not Disturb” settings.
Easy to set up and cost-effective, DECT systems are ideal for households with multiple handsets, offering flexible, secure and private communication. Additional features include Bluetooth integration, call transfer, hands-free use, and emergency calling, making them a versatile solution for in-home communication.
