Working Groups

Working Groups are the backbone of an industry organisation, bringing together expertise to drive collaboration, consensus, and the development of technologies that shape the industry.

Marketing Working Group

The Marketing Working Group aligns and executes the worldwide activities of the DECT Forum, promoting DECT as the preferred option for reliable and secure wireless connectivity solutions for the target application areas, which are IoT, Professional Audio and Cordless Telephony.

The Working Group currently covers the following activities:

  • Publication of the DECT Today industry magazine
  • White Papers to communicate the strength of the technology for current and future applications
  • Website regular update and refresh
  • Enhanced social media activities on various platform such as YouTube, Twitter and LinkedIn
  • Verify the value of virtual/online meetings, replacing industry events

Regulatory Working Group

An organisation such as the DECT Forum must stay aligned with regulators to guarantee legal spectrum use, enable global adoption, future-proof the technology, and maintain industry credibility.

The DECT Forum’s Regulatory Working Group addresses all regulatory issues pertaining to the use and protection of DECT Spectrum worldwide. This includes adjacent and co-channel interference issues, as well as the communication and interpretation of new regulatory laws from any affected DECT regional usage, and formation of strategic proposals relating to spectrum usage on behalf of the DECT Forum. This involves regular liaison with and contribution to regulatory studies and policy documents in CEPT, ETSI, ITU-R and MIC.

The Regulatory Working Group also addresses the creation of industry-relevant information on DECT technology and how it is applied, working closely with the ETSI Technical Committee for DECT (ETSI TC DECT) to align on regulatory relevant activities or all DECT technologies and DECT worldwide.

Certification Working Group

Certification in the wireless industry is not just a box-ticking exercise — it’s essential for legal compliance, interoperability, global market access, quality assurance, and customer trust.

The purpose of the DECT Forum’s Certification Working Group is to support member driven initiatives for certification of products and services based on DECT technologies. These initiatives denote a seal of quality and in some cases interoperability of certified products and facilitate the growth of specific target markets and the improved marketability of member products therein. This includes but is not restricted to, CAT-iq certification for HD Voice based services, and DECT Security certification for products typically targeting the enterprise communications market.

A certification programme for DECT NR+ is currently in development.

Buildings Interest Group

The smart building industry struggles with interoperability, cybersecurity, cost justification, legacy systems, reliability, regulatory complexity, and skills shortages. Overcoming these challenges is key to unlocking its full potential.

Under the umbrella of the DECT Forum, global leaders in smart building technology have taken the initiative to form a strategic interest group to tackle critical challenges in providing ultra-resilient and interoperable wireless connectivity everywhere in buildings using the new NR+ technology standard. These companies aim to establish NR+, the new technology standard purpose-built for IoT, as the preferred interoperable connectivity technology for digital buildings.

Within the Buildings Interest Group the following subgroups have been formed:

  • Marketing: will drive the creation of collateral, exhibit at relevant industry events, liaise with other industry organisations and more.
  • Certification: will create a formal certification program ensuring interoperability of devices from multiple vendors.
  • Technical: will create a reference implementation of an NR+ Border Router to be integrated by Border Router and Wi-Fi Access Point vendors.

DECT Forum AIR – Academia Industry Roundtable

The DECT Forum AIR (Academia Industry Roundtable) is established to foster collaboration and cooperation between the industrial and academic communities, recognizing these partnerships as essential to the long term advancement and success of future DECT technologies.

The group serves as a bridge among diverse stakeholders and acts as a catalyst for innovation, resource sharing, and strategic development.

Objectives and Activities

  • Connect representatives from industry, research institutions, and universities.
  • Exchange insights on research, technology trends, and study needs.
  • Share information on funding opportunities.
  • Initiate and support collaborative research projects and joint initiatives.
  • Promote visibility of research through publications, events, and standardization activities.
  • Facilitate partnerships to strengthen the impact of DECT community efforts.

Participation

The DECT Forum AIR is open to individuals with planned or ongoing involvement in collaborative and publicly co-funded research related to DECT technologies.

If you like to participate please contact one of its current members or secretariat@dect.org.

Advanced Metering Interest Group (AMIG)

With over a billion connected devices, smart metering is the world’s largest and most established IoT application, powering homes and businesses daily. As grids grow smarter, legacy connectivity can’t meet future demands for scale, reliability, and longevity. Global energy and technology leaders have united under the DECT Forum to form the Advanced Metering Interest Group (AMIG), promoting NR+, the non-cellular 5G standard for industrial IoT and grid-edge communications. Aligned with the global energy trilemma—sustainability, reliability, affordability—NR+ uses dedicated spectrum to deliver utility-owned, self-healing RF mesh networks that evolve with grid needs.

AMIG connects the energy ecosystem to build awareness, foster collaboration and enable interoperability to secure confidence in NR+ as the foundation for smart metering and grid-edge solutions.

AMIG focuses on three key areas:

• Awareness Building: expanding visibility through content, case studies, and thought leadership.
• Policy & Associations: working with regulators and other tech alliances to embed NR+ in energy and digitalization frameworks.
• Ecosystem Development: uniting device makers, utilities, and vendors to ensure a path to interoperability, certification, and scalable deployment.
